An architrave is a moulding, it is wider than a casing, which rests on the two casings that frame an interior door. It provides a crowning effect to the passage way. Architraves can be quite flamboyant and provide impact, or they can be very subtle, depending on the height and depth. Architraves are definitely a nice decorating touch; they add flair to doorways and windows. Architraves are placed at the top of a doorway or a window adding a classical formality and continuity. With a little imagination Architraves can also be used in the creation of coat racks and shelves.
